DIY Wooden Tonie Houses – Functional + Fun Storage for Kids
As a mom who loves creating, I’m always looking for ways to bring a little more functionality (and fun!) into our home. Recently, I built custom houses for each of my kids to display and organize their Tonie Characters on.
These houses aren’t just storage—they’re a special place for my children to organize and display their Characters while keeping playtime imaginative. The house design is a simple structure made from 1/2″ and 1/4″ plywood. While designing it I really wanted to make it feel like a true home for their characters. I added siding strips and a cedar style roof to give the home some character and dimension. I also added scallops to my daughter’s house while keep a traditional trim line for my son. The final addition was adding in magnets to hold the Tonies securely in place while also promoting a functional and clean look!
What I love most is that the houses do more than hold characters. They encourage independence, creativity, and ownership of their toys. My kids know exactly where to place each Tonie, and it’s turned cleanup time into a game (which is a parenting win!).
Building these pieces was also a reminder that DIY projects don’t need to be complicated to be impactful. With a little vision and some plywood, I was able to make something that not only serves a practical purpose but also sparks joy for my kids every single day.
If you’ve been looking for a way to bring more organization and fun into your your home, a Tonie house might be the perfect project to try.
