A Garage Upgrade: Making My Workshop Work for Me Again
If there’s one thing I’ve learned as a DIYer, it’s that your workspace should grow with you. Over the past few years, my projects have gotten bigger, my tools have multiplied, and my creativity has completely outgrown my original setup. So, it’s time to give my garage a well-deserved makeover—and this one’s going to be better than ever.
Garage Renovation: A Fresh Start for My Evolving Workshop
Three years ago (see pics below), I gave my garage a big makeover with doing my own epoxy floor and a set of new cabinets to create my dream workshop. At the time, it was exactly what I needed—but since then, my skill set (and the types of projects I take on) have grown so much. What once worked perfectly has slowly become less functional for the way I build and create today. That’s why I’m so excited to be giving my garage a full refresh!
The Vision!
I’ve partnered with The RTA Store to bring in beautiful new cabinetry for my workshop. These cabinets are not only high-quality and sturdy, but they come in the most stunning shade of navy—adding both functionality and style to every inch of the space.
When it came to picking the cabinet color, I knew I wanted something that tied into the overall color palette of our home. Navy felt like the perfect fit—it complements the coastal tones I’ve used throughout our interiors and pairs beautifully with the navy exterior of our home.
One thing that always bothered me about my previous garage setup was how disconnected it looked from the rest of the house. When you’d catch a glimpse of the inside of the garage from the road, the cabinet color felt totally out of place. This time, I wanted the space to flow seamlessly and feel like an intentional extension of our home’s design.
I’ll be covering the entire back wall with a mix of base and tall pantry cabinets to maximize storage and organization. I was thinking one of my tall pantry cabinets will hold all my paint things since that takes up the most space in my garage. Should I do the right side or left?
Also, the back wall I was thinking of adding in some shiplap panels. Which by the way, I have never installed them before. Do you think its too dated? I wanted some visual interest and thought it was simple enough but added a pinch of fun to the space!
